Ace Journalist, Kwabena Yeboah has slammed government’s decision to award each member of the Black Stars with $25,000 bonus after placing second in the just ended Africa Cup of Nations.

According to the renowned Ghanaian commentator, government’s decision is completely “misplaced” and “lopsided”.

The President, John Dramani Mahama announced the bonus package for the Black Stars at the Flagstaff House upon the return of the senior national team from Equatorial Guinea.

President Mahama said the $25,000 bonus package was from headline sponsor of the Black Stars, the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation.

The Black Stars lost to the Ivory Coast on penalties to place second at the biennial tournament.

Speaking on Starr Chat with host Bola Ray Wednesday, Yeboah said the over concentration on the Black Stars by the government seriously affects other sports disciplines.

“When the Black Stars of Ghana have gone to Equatorial Guinea and up to the final game everybody has been given $50,000 and the leadership of the country thinks that it is meagre and must be topped up with $25,000 per player, some of us think that it is completely misplaced.

“It is completely misplaced and I am opposed to that…if you decide to top it up with $25,000 when the Ghana tennis association is thrown out of the International federation because they could not pay 15, 000 then there is a problem there”.

He added that: “the Athletics association headed by Professor Dodoo were thrown out of the ITT because they failed to pay their affiliation fee of $10, 000”.

Yeboah who has been one of Africa’s finest commentators and a celebrated sports writer was also inducted into the Starr Hall of Fame on the show.
