Three pupils in New Asuoyaa in the Eastern region lost their lives while swimming across the Densu River to school.

The pupils, some as young as 3 years, have to do this each day in order to access education.

The unfortunate incident happened after Adomonline.com broke the news of the stress children in that community go through before going to school.

Some of the children who spoke to Adom FM’s Maxwell Kudakor said they are compelled to go back home because it is too dangerous to cross the river.

A sub-chief of New Asuoyaa, Opanyin Bekoe recalled how three children drowned in the Densu River while swimming to school.

He described the situation as horrifying, as those who survive contract urinal infections and other water borne diseases.

Opanyin Bekoe wants a bridge to be immediately constructed across the river to avert further deaths.
