Deputy Minority leader, Dominic Nitiwul is calling for the resignation of some leaders of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) following the death of the Upper East regional chairman, Adams Mahama.

He could not fathom why the leadership have allowed petty squabbles in the party to degenerate to such an extent.

“If people have conscience they should be resigning; we have already sacrificed Adams and we should not allow anyone to die again” he said on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday.

The Upper East regional chairman died in the Bolga hospital where he was receiving treatment after two men poured acid on him around midnight Wednesday.

The motive for the attack is unknown but Mr. Adams was recently in the news for allegedly orchestrating an attack on the National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko, and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong.

Brother of the National Chairman has been accused of masterminding the attack – an allegation the Chairman has vehemently denied.

But a distraught Nitiwul said the Afoko-led National executives should bow down their heads in shame.

He noted that the internal wrangling has degenerated becuase they have not shown great leadership.

The Deputy Minority leader said NPP which prides itself on being a party of democrats needs “serious cleansing”.

He indicated that the party seems to have shifted from its core duty as an alternative government and is rather fighting each other.

“How can a human being commit such a callous and hideous crime against a man who has dedicated all his life to the NPP? I’m still in shock” he bemoaned.

Dominic Nitiwul, who is also the Member of Parliament for Bimbilla disclosed that before his death, the late Adams Mahama mentioned the names of his assailants.

“The names being bandied around are party people, not even our political adversary; this is the worse thing that has happened to the party” he bemoaned.

He called on the police to do their work without fear or favour and bring the culprits to book.

Dominic Nitiwul appealed for calm and called on the party’s rank and file to unite and fulfil Mr. Adams Mahama’s dream of returning the NPP back to power.
