Ms. Christina Amarchey, Programme Manager of ActionAid Ghana (Brong-Ahafo Region) has advised women to involve themselves in the upcoming district assembly elections.
She said the failure of women involvement in decision making hinders the development of the nation.
Ms. Christina Amarchey disclosed this at a day forum for women who intend to contest the impending district assembly elections in the Brong Ahafo region.
The regional women forum was under the theme: “Women participation in decision making is a right.”
According to Ms. Amarchey, Self-belief, Hope, Hard work and Persistence are key to success in every aspect of life.
She further advised women to master good communication skills in order to progress in their respective fields.
Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Director of National Commission on Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Michael Amponsah, said participation in decision making is not a privilege but rather a right.
He said what is needed is collective decision but not individual differences.
“The number of women in decision making accounts for good practice of democracy, and also gender discrimination is against the laws of the country.”
Queen Mother of Sunyani, Nana Yaa Nyamaa entreated women to be focus, humble, hard working and learn from those who are ahead of them.
She advised them not to be enemies of themselves.
News Hunter Magazine has gathered that the number of women in the Parliament of Ghana accounts for only 10.5%.
