Fear has gripped the Techiman Fire Service over numerous illegal connection of electricity at the Techiman market.

The Techiman Municipal Fire Service Commander, Divisional Officer [lll] Mr.Philip Ansah speaking in an interview with Techiman Times posited that his outfit is putting in more effort to combat fire cases in the municipality.

He however lamented about inadequate fire hydrants—which will help them to undertake their operations smoothly.

Mr. Ansah advised the market users to follow the instructions and precautionary measures being put in place to prevent against fire outbreaks.

According to him, beside the illegal connection, the market has a lot of fire precaution problems such as blocking of road, use of gas cylinders for cooking in the market, partial adherence to market segregation, improper parking of cars at Techiman Wa station block access to the only fire hydrant in the market.

He revealed that, currently the Volta River Authority[VRA], the Municipal Assembly, and the Security Services have formed a special task force to identify the people behind illegal connection for prosecution.

Mr. Ansah is also appealing to authorities to help in getting more fire hydrants in the municipality to support the only two that are serving both Techiman South and North districts.
