We have done our checks at Flex newspaper and obviously, we are sure we have gotten some of the names right when it comes to female gospel artistes who are being managed by their husbands.
According to the list, Ohemaa Mercy is being managed by her husband successfully. Again, we came across Celestine Donkor also managed by her husband. Fast rising artiste Nhyira Betty is also managed by her husband and we can also talk about Anita Afriyie who is equally managed by her husband.
Now let`s assume without admitting that the list is minimal therefore it`s a big issue for a husband to manage a wife as an artiste with the intention of making profits from the wife`s career and trade. Flex newspaper spoke with some industry people to seek their views on the topic and gospel artiste Stevenoil was one of such people whose submissions we find interesting to publish for your reading pleasure.
Steveinoil: “To me I think husband as managers in this gospel business does not auger well for so many reasons. One of them being that in marriage, there is always going to be a day or two that there will be some misunderstanding which even marriage experts see normal. Unfortunately, anytime that comes up, the probability of that same issue eating into your work scope is high because the same people are working with the same emotions in the business.
Should there be any business around that cold moment, it`s likely to affect it because emotions will come to play and that is a dangerous practice if you ask me. Same way, if there is a problem in the business, that problem is likely to rear its ugly head in the marriage too which can destabilize or ruin your marriage.
Women express their emotions to their husbands easily and the weaker ones are not able to differentiate between the marriage and the work. With these reasons and other matters, I suggest that all female gospel artistes should rather have their husbands as executive producers and not managers. They can take the executive part of the job and give the managerial part to experts who can work effectively to recoup the investment made” Steveinoil suggested when he was asked by Flex newspaper for his views on the subject of gospel artistes and their husbands as managers.
In the world of uncertainties, there are always some few exceptions, and we believe couples who would make it their efforts to change the stereotypical nature of things can achieve at that. Any examples so far to share?
