Ace keyboardist Bessa Simons has revealed that he had dreams and ambitions of becoming a gutter cleaner when he was a child.
The ‘belembe’ hit maker, who has five albums to his credit, told Lexis Bill on Joy FM’s Personality Profile Thursday evening that his childhood dream of becoming a gutter cleaner was borne out of the admiration he had for one such man who cleaned gutters with some “swag.”
“That was a small boy’s one. You know those days government had these people who cleaned the gutters and there was this man, he would come and clean the gutter and he did it with a certain swag.
“He can put the brush on his shoulder and he’ll be walking and…the gutter will be clean.
“I looked at him and I said wow…so I wanted to be like that man, and I think maybe because he did so well,” Simons said.
Simons, whose father and grandfather were into music, however, added that he knew he was going to end up as a professional musician.
