A member of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) George Kuntu Blankson says replacing the current Member of Parliament for the Suame constituency, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu will not favour the people of the constituency.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Kuntu Blankson said the Minority Leader is the constituency’s best bet.
Opponents have criticised Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu for intending to contest the Suame seat again after being an MP for four consecutive times.
They have claimed that the Minority leader has failed to make any significant improvement in the lives of his constituents.
But Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu has disagreed with these assertions and asked the leadership of New Patriotic Party (NPP) to put in place a policy that will prevent any party member from challenging a Minority leader in the party’s primaries.
Osei-Kyei Mensah Bonsu said the practice where the party allows its leader in Parliament to be challenged is undemocratic.
He called on the party to come to his rescue in the interest of the party.
Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said voting him out of parliament is akin to replacing Lionel Messi with Don Bortey in a crucial game.
The former MP for Ekumfi, Kuntu Blankson agrees with this. He said there was no way the people of the Suame should expect that the constituency to develop if they voted out the Minority Leader.
Citing the case of the Tema West constituency where Abraham Aiddo was replaced with Naa Torshie Addo, Mr Blankson said anyone who replaces the Minority Leader will only be a back bencher and will have nothing to offer the constituency.
The legislator may not be a perfect person and but it is normal with every human being so the people of Suame must forgive him if he has wronged them and keep him as MP, he said.
He said people don’t just get up and become MPs, the position is earned and in his view Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has done exactly that.
