Nayele Amatefe, the 32-year-old Ghanaian lady arrested for smuggling cocaine into the United Kingdom, would know her fate today, January 5, 2015 when she appears before a London court.
Known variously as Ruby Adu-Gyamfi or Angel, the lady and two female accomplices breached Ghana’s airport security allegedly with the assistance of three Ghanaian Security and Foreign Affairs officials, also facing charges in Accra, Ghana.
Per charges leveled against the three suspects arrested over the case, Nayele and her two accomplices were said to have used the VVIP section of the Kotoka International Airport prior to boarding the British Airways flight.
Her two female accomplices escaped in London, but were arrested on their return to Ghana.
Nail Ametefeh pleaded guilty to the offense of drug trafficking and implored the UK judge to speed up her sentence. Her case was adjourned to January 5.
Despite failing to appear in person at the Ipswich Crown Court when the case was first called, it is expected that the lady who is said to have various links with the top hierarchy of Ghana’s government, would appear this time to receive her sentence.
Lawyers who have commented on the case have argued that the lady might be sentenced to a maximum of fifteen years following her admission of the guilt.
However, the complete sentence for the lady would be known today.
