On Nov 14, 2007, former President, John Agyekum Kufuor escaped unhurt, when his convoy was involved in an accident, while he was on his way to the Castle, Osu.

It, therefore, became imperative that our leaders, at least the first and second gentlemen of the land, travel with an ambulance, because the lack of it, when Kufuor, had the accident, could have resorted in an unfortunate situation, but for the timely intervention of the hawkers at the scene of the accident.

Since then, a lot has gone into reinforcing the security and safety of our leaders, which is something, that cannot be compromised.

For some time now, we have observed that the Vice-President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur, travels without an ambulance, not that we do not wish him well and hope that he is involve in an accident, but it is a normal safety practice that as part of his convoy, an ambulance should be included.

If it is true that he travels with medical personnel, we do not think that is enough, as an ambulance comes with medical equipment and other accessories, necessary in case of an emergency.

We need to protect and safeguard the safety of our leaders; we cannot take their safety and security for granted. We can only expect more from them, when their security become our priority.

State protocol or whichever State institution, whose mandate it is to ensure that our President and his deputy, as well as their spouses, are well protected and provided with all that they need, must ensure that it is done to the utmost.

These are not things to gloss over and live it to God, as we always do and say is the norm.

We cannot leave their safety to chance, and hope that nothing happens to them. Prevention, they say, is better than cure.
