The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has commissioned a three-storey building for the Ashtown branch of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church (SDA) with a call on the church and the Christian community to contribute to national development.

At the commissioning ceremony performed by the Mawerehene, Nana Baafour Osei Hyeaman Brantuo VI, on behalf of the Asantehene at Ashanti New Town in Kumasi, he said the church and other religious bodies were agents of socialisation and were required to train children to become better assets to society.

He said much as society required development, it was incumbent on religious institutions to train the youth of the church whose integration into society would be a welcoming one.

He observed that many youth in the country had become burden to their families and society and without attention from the church they would cost society the developmental status it deserves.

He said child nurturing in God’s way was a step in the right direction as it was accepted by the traditional community as well and called on the SDA church not to relent on its efforts to provide holistic education.

Having noted the rekindled relationship between the Manhyia Palace and the SDA church, he pledged the support of the Asantehene for the church.

Mr Augustine Adu Gyamfi from the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, who represented the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Samuel Sarpong, charged the church to join the campaign and speak against sexual abuse such as rape and defilement and other moral decadence in the society.
