Last year’s (2014) entertainment calendar was filled with sad moments as the Ghanaian music industry recorded sad issues in our music industry yet musicians worked tirelessly to wipe our sorrows away as they kept releasing songs that kept us on our feet.

In 2014, most songs made waves in and across the African continent by various musicians

Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the 2014 top ten songs

1.Sarkodie Ft. Castro – Adonai

Sarkodie indeed knows exactly what the people of Ghana wants in terms of songs releasing. Though the main song was on his third album ‘Sarkology’, the undoubted Ghanaian musician knew the perfect collaboration and a remix on the song ‘Adonai’ will do the magic. With a perfect hook from the king of hooks, Castro was the perfect blend for the song. A well scripted video was shot to perfectly interpret the song to the Ghanaians and the world community after a success massive hit from the audio song. Fellow Ghanaians undoubted the song sits comfortably on the number 1 spot.

  1. Castro Ft. D. Black – Seihor

Me nam na metiti, Me nam na metiti, Siehor siehor wo b3te……….Personally at first when the song was released I wasn’t a fan of it but tell me I had no option than to accept it since the masses were so madly in love with the song. This was a song which was played at every household, events etc. The song ‘Seihor’ was a mid tempo tune which was well constructed and polished by DJ Breezy which got every youth on their feet. The song which was released in mid-2014 was every media house chart monster as it wiped all and sundry songs to emerge victors every week. Comfortably the song sits on the number 2 spot.

  1. VVIP – Selfie

Since the Grand papa joined the group after the exit of former group member Promzy, the new trio have been consistently banging our speakers with great songs. ‘’All I really wanna tell you, sexy sexy, girl lemme stand next to you, lets take a selfie selfie’’ got you dancing right? The beat in the song ‘Selfie’ was on point as the ‘FOOL’ DJ Breezy has a way on coining beats to perfectly suit the act. The song was on popular demand on various media platforms as it got every single Ghanaian lady pulling her phone first thing in the morning and posing with her camera to take a ‘Selfie’ (with their mouth out in that way…lol). A story line video was shot to portray the lyrical content of the song.

  1. Gallaxy – Borkor Borkor

From their surprise appearance into the music industry with songs like ‘Wo do nti’ and a host of others, Gallaxy and their team has been a force to reckon with in the year 2014 as their hit song ‘Borkor Borkor’ was the song you will always hear on a daily basics. The song was on constant replay on various media houses and also on various weekly chart shows in the capital city and beyond. A well African costumed story line video was shot to make the music well understood by the music enthusiast. Mmmm just a line from the song ‘’You killing me softly with your love. do me borkor bokor babey eii. Ladies and gentlemen the song takes the number 4 spot.

 

  1. Yaa Pono – Amen

‘’Holy Ghost fire go burn dem down, see we dey town more success and more….’’ Yeap!! I guess I had the lyrics exactly right. Tell me who wasn’t singing this song in the year under review as Yaa Pono’s commerciality in the music industry hasn’t been felt much until the release of the hit song ‘Amen’. Dj’s and radio personalities got the song ‘Amen’ on constant replay as it was the song for the youth. Honestly the song deserves the number 5 spot or what do you think fellas?!

  1. D. Black Ft. Castro – Personal Person

Desmond Blackmore under the year of review came out with yet another masterpiece which almost kept Ghanaian singing to the song ‘Personal Person’. Tell me who won’t love a song when musician Castro does a silky and well-constructed hook. It was all about ‘Personal Person’ as the song find its way to numerous chats shows in the country. A nice video was shot to explain the humour of the music to its fans. Desmond Blackmore indeed deserves to sit comfortably on the number 6 spot.

  1. Guru – Pooley

In 2014 the song ‘POOLEY’ was the song at various events as DJ’s look no further than to play the song ‘POOLEY’. The song ‘POOLEY’ got the Ghanaian community singing and taping their feet whenever is played. The song topped numerous charts in the second quarter of 2014 and comfortably it sits on the number 5

  1. MzVee Ft. Stonebwoy – Natural Girl

Undoubtedly MzVee has been the name on the lips of Ghanaians for the 2014. No wonder MzVee lock horns with Stonebwoy to make the perfect collaboration and bring the ‘NATURAL GIRL’ song for the Ghanaian community. Unquestionably the song gained massive airplay on numerous radios, clubs and pubs. Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the ‘NATURAL GIRL’ comfortably sitting on number 8 spot.

  1. Samini – Scatter Mind

The great dancehall legend once again came out with another massive hit song titled ‘Scatter Badmind’. The song got the Ghanaian music enthusiast talking and tagging it to be a diss song to Shatta Wale. With constant hit on various weekly chat shows by various media houses made the song scatter the mind of Ghanaians. The song really forced it way to the top as finally it made it to our top 10 songs in 2014.

  1. Sarkodie Ft. Fuse ODG – Down On One

For this song guys to be honest I don’t know what to write to explain the song under the year of review. All that I can say about this song is ‘Go down on one knee’ as we end 2014. Ladies and gentlemen I present to you the number 10 song ‘Down On One’.

 

 

Songs worth recognition in 2014

Pappy Kojo Ft. Joey B – Realer No

The name Pappy Kojo literally sprung out from nowhere in the last quarter of 2014 after a successful featuring on Joey B’s song ‘WAVE’ which was the banging Hip-hop in Ghana. Fast forward it was all about the song ‘REALER NO’ the song that got the youth and the entire Ghanaian community talk about the ‘New Lords’ as they (Pappy Kojo & Joey B) have tag themselves. The song ‘REALER NO’ was on every single chat show, topping chats and getting massive airplay. A well-crafted video was shot to push the lyrical content visually which got the masses going ‘gaga’ after the video was released. Ladies and gentlemen the song ‘REALER NO’ sits on the number 9 spot.

 

Sarkodie Ft. Shatta Wale – Megye Wo Girl

I always tell my peeps that whenever Sark drops a cover art for a song before the release mehn trust me is a monster hit. To be honest in 2014 if you joke with this two acts trust me ‘Omo begye wo girl’. LOL. The song which was released in the last quarter of 2014 single-handedly out shined all the songs which were enjoying massive airplay in Ghana. The song was a MONSTER HIT as it had a touch of all genres with dancehall flavour perfectly blending it. When two great acts like this collabo on a song, undoubtedly it rules.

Ladies and gentlemen you can also add your songs to the top 10 songs in 2014 to the list too because am tired of writing oooo…..LOL
