There is great concern regarding the alleged recent purchases of two four bedroom houses in Sacramento, the capital of the US state of California and JPort Elizabeth, South Africa by Justice William Atuguba, the Supreme Court Judge who is currently handling an election petition involving some members of Ghana’s main opposition, the New Patriotic Party against the electoral commission.
These four bedrooms houses were allegedly purchased at the cost of US$320,000 and US$225,000 each respectively. The sources of these funds have been allegedly traced to an offshore company registered in the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean and also the Republic Bank in Trinidad and Tobago, Spyghana.com sources have hinted.
Last year there was an article in the press about a bank in Trinidad called the Republic Bank of which Ghana’s current President, John Dramani Mahama had some shares in it. When this article came out there was no denial from himself nor his spokesperson.
In a latest development a group calling its self The new Free Press has has come out with more allegations suggesting that one of the judges handling the ongoing electoral dispute at the Supreme Court has sold his conscious.
In a statement the group says “The New Free Press believes that Justice William Atuguba has already sold his conscience for these houses and is indeed working hard on the other judges to tow the line in exchange for gifts that in his words will change their lives. We call on the Judge to step down in the national interest and for a new judge who is incorruptible to take over the case. Justice Atuguba we also found out to our surprise is also a god parent to President John Mahama’s third son. Does anybody expect any ruling against him in a court of law?” the statement said.
The group promises to reveal more about this issue in the future “We will be back with our story on a 2 am 31st January,2013, secret meeting between Justice William Atuguba, Dr Raymond Atuguba ,Secretary to the President, Mr Yaw Donkor, Head of the Bureau of National Investigations, and President John Mahama himself at a house in Achimota deciding the modalities and length of the case .”
Attached are the alleged pictures of the houses Justice Attuguba is said to have bought. The group sourced it to their ‘diligent investigations team and contacts within the security apparatus.”
Roland Amankwanor, Senior Investigator of The New Free Press signed the statement on behalf of the group.
