Fans of DJs and Ghanaian music across the country are in great suspense ahead of the announcement for the nominees of this year’s Ghana DJ Awards.
The announcement, which is being made this Friday 19th February, will be held at the MJ Grand Hotel and can be heard live on Hitz 103.9 FM. It will be the first and the official announcement of the 2016 nominees labled ‘The Movers’. The actual award ceremony is going to be held on March 18th at the International Conference Centre. This gives the nominated DJs a little less than a month to continue to build their buzz and make any final preparations before the main event.
Ghana DJ Awards features over 20 different categories spanning across all aspects of DJing. Some of these categories include: Best Radio DJ (male & female), Best Record Promoting DJ and Best Club DJ. The winners of awards from last year will certainly be looking to retain their titles; and there is definitely one man who is looking to keep up his winning traditions. While DJ Black, overall Best DJ of the Year, three consecutive time, will be looking to assert his usual dominance, there will undoubtedly be some determined and talented DJs looking to steal his crown.
The Move to the Beat Pub Tour, a roadshow designed by Merqury Republic, organizers of the prestigious awards scheme to give prominence to DJs, has created an awareness of Ghana’s top DJs ahead of this year’s award ceremony. It has given the potential nominees a chance to show off their skills and prove to the public that they are worthy of not only a nomination but also the prestigious awards. Whilst previous winners and established DJs such as DJ Nyce and DJ Mac Tontoh took to the decks at various venues, the spotlight revealed DJs such as DJ Atopa, DJ Ella Diva and DJ Wabs.
Competition is seriously fierce and the suspense becoming unbearable. But hang in there, as we will know who ‘The Movers’ are in only a couple of days! The awards ceremony really covers all forms of DJing and is something that the event organisers should really be proud of. We, as fans of music, are finally able to acknowledge and respect the importance of the DJs that make us MOVE TO THE BEAT!
