Renowned Ghanaian gospel musician, Emelia Arthur has raised concerns about the conduct of some gospel musicians following the robbery that occurred at Bogoso in the Western Region less than a couple of weeks ago and led to the shooting and killing of Lance Corporal Nicholas Duku, attached to the Tarkwa Divisional Command. The arrested suspects named one Kwaku Mintah – known to be a gospel musician in the Tarkwa area – as the mastermind behind the operation.
In an interview on J Life FM with host, Felix Agyei widely known as Mr Lattus, Emelia Arthur registered her dissatisfaction on the issue at hand and commented on the behaviours exhibited by some musicians while pointing out that, there are gospel musicians who are called by God to do His work and those who have called themselves into gospel music.
She added that gospel musicians by all standards should live a life of God through their way of dressing, the way they speak and a generally acceptable lifestyle as befits a musician of the gospel.
“There are people who have been called by God to do his work and those who have called themselves because they believe they have the voice to sing. The behaviour depends on where the person received his or her training and the mindset the person has before venturing into gospel music,” she said.
Again asked by the host why some gospel musicians would stoop low to even indulge in robbery, she reiterated that it was all about the training received and taking a stance to shun all past ungodly lifestyles and starting anew.
She also noted that, “As a gospel musician, you are the devil’s biggest enemy so if you do not eliminate certain lifestyles which are at par with what you preach in your music and succumb to prayers, the temptations will come endlessly.”
In her final comments, the gospel musician behind the soul lifting song, “Kyere Me Kwan” advised all gospel musicians – up and coming ones and those already in the industry – to ask God to always direct their affairs and remain humble.
“You can never be popular than Jesus. So humble yourself and don’t try to overtake Him less you’ll get stuck,” She cautioned.
