Talented Ghanaian actors Yvonne Okoro and Majid Michel have raised the country’s flag high at this year’s edition of Nigeria Entertainment Award (NEA) held in New York over the weekend.
Yvonne won Pan Africa Best Actress with her performance in the movie, ‘Single Six.’
She competed with popular award-winning actresses Ama Abebrese- ‘Ties That Bind,’ Juliet Ibrahim- ‘Crazy Scandal,’Kudzai Sevenzo- ‘Playing Warriors,’ Jokate Mwegelo- ‘Chumo’and Millicent Mahheido- ‘48.’
Majid also won the Pan African Best Actor with his role in the Frank Rajah-directed ‘Somewhere in Africa.’
The reigning African Academy Awards best actor beat the likes of Van Vicker (‘Paparazzi’), Chris Attoh (‘6 Hours To Christmas’) and John Dumelo (‘Ties That Bind’) to pick the top award.
This was the seventh edition of NEA, an award scheme which honoured African entertainers.
It took place at a grand red carpet ceremony in New York, from August 31 to September 2.
Both Majid and Yvonne were not present at the ceremony as organizers could not ensure to get them there. Other nominees as Ama Abebrese and John Dumelo were also not present.
However, there were some popular Nigerian celebrities, some of whom also picked awards at the ceremony.
